TBH, the best places to travel in November in the U.S. are all about mixing snuggly fall vibes with a little adventure.
Some places on my list are warm, some are full on fall.
Think fewer crowds and just enough holiday sparkle starting to peek through.
Whether you want beaches, skiing, or history, these are the best places to travel in November in the U.S.:
Oahu, Hawaii

If you’re craving sunshine while the rest of the country layers up (felt), Oahu is the answer.
Diamond Head is a must for sunrise, while Hanauma Bay gives you some of the best snorkeling. The North Shore also kicks off surf season, so you can watch pros take on massive waves.
November is warm, less crowded, and perfect for both beach days and hikes.
The Grand Canyon

Visiting the Grand Canyon in November feels like you’ve scored a private pass to one of the world’s most famous places.
Summer crowds are gone, the air is crisp, and the sunsets glow with deeper shades of red and orange. Hiking trails like Bright Angel and South Kaibab are easier to enjoy without the blazing heat.
The South Rim stays open year-round, giving plenty of overlooks and ranger programs.
November at the Grand Canyon is pure magic without the chaos!

Southern California

Southern California in November hits the sweet spot: sunshine without the scorch.
Los Angeles is perfect for taking pics on the Santa Monica Pier or in front of murals downtown. San Diego shines with the San Diego Bay Wine and Food Festival, which is foodie heaven.
National parks nearby, like Channel Islands and Cabrillo National Monument, are way more comfortable to explore in November.
You can pair city fun in LA with laid-back beach days and then add a dose of coastal hiking, tide pools, and sweeping Pacific views, all in one trip.
SoCal is lovely any time of the year, but its one of the best places to travel in November in the U.S., for sure.

Socorro, New Mexico

Socorro feels like a secret in November, but it is one of the best places to travel in November in the U.S., thanks to the Festival of the Cranes at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge.
Thousands of cranes and geese migrate here, filling the sky at sunrise and sunset, and its breathtaking.
If you hike the refuge trails, expect to see coyotes, deer, eagles, and hawks this time of year.
Socorro is also just an hour south of Albuquerque, which makes it a perfect day trip if you’re already exploring the city.

Texas

Texas in November is dreamy (well, as dreamy as it gets for such an ugly state, I can say that because I’m from here).
The cooler air makes exploring so much easier, and the people aren’t as angry.
Skip Houston and the Gulf Coast, where hurricane season is popping off, and instead focus on the cities and parks.
- Dallas: Visit the Dallas Arboretum to see its pumpkin village and fall gardens, also there’s 10,000 fall-themed popups here during this time of year. Read my Guide to Dallas.
- Fort Worth: My hometown! Step into cowboy culture at the Stockyards or hike Eagle Mountain Park. Read my Guide to Fort Worth.
- Austin: Listen to live music, swim at Barton Springs, or hike Barton Creek Greenbelt. Find the Best Beer in Austin or do Austin on a Budget.
- Waco: Head to Magnolia Market at the Silos for shopping, pumpkin displays, and photo-worthy fall vibes, then explore the trails at Brazos Park or the Dr. Pepper Museum. Read my Guide to Waco.
Texas is mega huge, and November is probably the best month to see most of it.
Talimena Scenic Drive, Oklahoma

November is peak magic in this section of Oklahoma, when the mountains explode with deep reds, amber golds, and bright orange foliage.
The 53-mile Talimena Scenic Drive connects Oklahoma to Arkansas as it winds over glowing mountain ridges packed with rich fall foliage each November.
The cooler air settles in, the mornings feel crisp, and the winding roads turn into a full, glowing tunnel of color.
If you want classic autumn scenery, the Talimena Scenic Drive is as close to perfect as it gets.

Boston, Massachusetts

Boston in November is like stepping into an American AF storybook.
The cobblestone streets are lined with crunchy leaves, and the Northeastern chill in the air makes hot cider taste even better.
Just a short trip away is Plymouth, where you can see reenactments of the First Thanksgiving (like ever, THE first Thanksgiving), which is such a uniquely American thing to do if I ever heard of one.
November is also still whale season, so you might spot humpbacks in Boston via a whale watching tour.
Between history, cute little streets, and seasonal festivals, Boston in November feels like fall personified.
Moab, Utah

Moab in November is a dream for adventure lovers.
The crowds have thinned, the weather is cool, and the red rock landscapes are basically empty.
Spend your days hiking through Arches or Canyonlands.
When night falls, the skies light up with more stars than you thought possible (it’s one of the darkest skies in the U.S.!) Imagine sitting by a campfire with that view.
Whether you camp or stay in a cabin, Moab balances peace and adventure beautifully, and is truly one of the best places to travel in November in the U.S.
Colorado

I’ve been to Colorado in every season, but there’s something extra special about November.
As Colorado shifts from fall into winter, you get the best of both November worlds: snowy peaks and cozy holiday vibes.
Don’t miss:
- Blossoms of Light, Denver Botanic Gardens: Starting in late November, the gardens transform into a glowing wonderland with over a million twinkling lights strung through trees, sculptures, and pathways.
- Estes Park: Tour the historic Stanley Hotel (yes, the one from The Shining), browse the downtown shops, and catch the Glow Parade after Thanksgiving.
- Breckenridge: This mountain town is straight out of a snow globe in late November. Stroll along Main Street, then hit some of the best ski slopes in Colorado as the season kicks off.
- Colorado Ski Towns: November is when Colorado’s ski towns start to sparkle, with Breckenridge, Aspen, Vail, Telluride, and Steamboat Springs opening their slopes and villages coming alive with twinkling lights, cozy après-ski spots, and the first big snowfalls of the season.
- Scenic Train Rides: The Georgetown Loop Railroad and Royal Gorge Route are unforgettable when the mountains start to frost over.
This is truly one of the best places to travel in November in the U.S.
Colorado in the fall is where it’s at, y’all.

Joshua Tree National Park

Joshua Tree is one of the best places to travel in November in the U.S. because the desert heat finally cools down.
The park’s Joshua trees look like something straight out of a Dr. Seuss book, with spiky branches twisting in wild directions.
Hike Hidden Valley, climb Skull Rock, or wander the Cholla Cactus Garden for epic photos. The stargazing is incredible, with super clear skies at night.
November is the best time to hike without a heat stroke and soak in the strange beauty of Joshua Tree.
Albuquerque, New Mexico

I’ve been to ABQ in literally every season but fall here is just somethin’ else.
Events like the Día de los Muertos Marigold Parade are not to be missed.
Hiking in the Sandia Mountains is also beautiful this time of year, with wide-open views.
November is also the perfect time to road trip the Turquoise Trail, the scenic byway that runs between Santa Fe and Albuquerque.
The drive takes about an hour, but you’ll want to stop along the way to explore quirky ghost towns, old mining camps, and tiny art communities.
The Turquoise Trail is one of the prettiest drives in New Mexico and an easy way to add a little road trip magic to your November getaway.

South Florida

South Florida is your warm-weather escape once the rest of the country cools down.
I <3 Miami in November.
Spend a day at the iconic South Beach, then head to Wynwood, where the colorful street murals make every corner Instagram-worthy.
For something more cultural, visit Little Havana (or one of Miami’s other awesome neighborhoods), where you can order a Cuban coffee (highly, highly, highly recommend).
Further south, Pensacola lives at a slower pace with its pretty white-sand beaches along the Gulf Coast.
The National Naval Aviation Museum is massive, and Pensacola’s historic downtown is all brick sidewalks, art galleries, and fresh seafood.
With sunshine, culture, and plenty of beach time, South Florida is a November getaway that feels like summer never ended.
