From the moment I set foot in Le Richelieu Hotel, I was impressed.
I’d mapped it out on Google, read a few Le Richelieu review posts, and now here I was.
This hotel won me over instantly.
I wanted charm, convenience, and character in the center of the French Quarter, and the hotel delivered on all fronts.
Here is my (unsponsored) review of Le Richelieu Hotel in New Orleans:
The Test of Time
The hotel was built in the early 1800s and has served many purposes throughout New Orleans’ long history.
It originally housed merchants and travelers visiting the NOLA. Over time, it became a favorite boutique hotel known for its Old World charm.
Its historic architecture and past guests, including musicians and writers, make Le Richelieu Hotel a true New Orleans icon.
Location
The location could not be better.
The hotel sits within easy walking distance of Bourbon Street, Royal Street, the French Market, and the Mississippi Riverfront.
Despite being so close to all the energy, the hotel (and its balconies) are quiet, thanks to its slightly set-back location from the loudest streets.
Note: You do not need a car to explore the French Quarter.
Lobby + Corridors
The lobby at Le Richelieu Hotel was warm, elegant, and familiar with patterned tile, warm tones, a hint of vintage New Orleans flair.
The oversized ceilings are so pretty, with classic touches, lovely lighting, and tasteful furniture. Walking down the hallways, I was struck by the beautiful furniture outside the rooms: lovely chairs, little side tables, decorative touches.
The aesthetic feels historic but comfortable, not stuffy.
My Experience with the Rooms at Le Richelieu Hotel
I actually ended up staying in two different rooms during my trip, which feels like the most “me” thing that could have happened.
When I checked in, the staff gave me the sweetest surprise: they told me I could choose between a garden-view room or a street-view room.
And instead of making me pick blind, they offered to show me both. That’s the kind of hospitality I live for.
The garden-view room was the kind of space that instantly lowers your shoulders. Soft light, leafy greenery outside the window, that hush you only get when the world is tucked away in the distance. It felt peaceful, almost spa-like, the kind of room where you accidentally take a two-hour nap.
But then they took me to the street-view room, and it had a whole different energy. Bright, lively, connected to the rhythm of the neighborhood. I could hear a hint of the city in the distance, not loud, just enough to remind you that you’re somewhere with stories unfolding all around you. The windows framed the street like its own little movie. I knew immediately this was the one.
The staff didn’t rush me, didn’t hover, didn’t make me feel like a nuisance for taking my time. It’s a small moment, but it says a lot about the kind of stay you’re going to have.
I chose the street view, and every morning I was happy I did. I woke up to sunlight catching the rooftops and the soft hum of the city stretching awake.
At night, I left the French doors open as light rain hit the balcony.

Paul McCartney Suite
It’s called the Paul McCartney Suite because the musician stayed there during his visit to NOLA in the 1970s.
The hotel later named the suite in his honor to celebrate his time at Le Richelieu Hotel.
The room is comfy, with a king bedroom and a living area, plus a private balcony.
The suite is furnished with style: classic lines, comfortable seating, and touches of New Orleans.
View from the Balconies
The streetview balcony overlooks the wild, colorful life of the Quarter.
Bars, music, people spilling out into the evening, all right around the corner.
The streetview balcony is one giant wrought iron masterpiece that wraps around the second story and is shared by a few rooms. The gardenside balcony overlooks the pool and parking lot, offering a more private view with a charming courtyard feel.

- Coop’s Place, hearty Creole and Cajun (4-minute walk).
- French Market, for locally made food, open-air shopping, and handmade art (5-minute walk).
- Muriel’s Jackson Square, elegant Creole (7-minute walk).
- Café Amelie, beautiful courtyard, neighborhood feel, 7-minute walk.
- Café du Monde, an iconic stop for beignets and chicory coffee (8-minute walk).
- Antoine’s, classic NOLA fine dining (14-minute walk).
And my go-to coffee spots, from super close to a short walk:
- Café du Monde for the infamous Café Au Lait (half milk, half coffee, super good).
- CC’s Coffee House, incredible mixed drinks, great if you love fun flavors (6-minute walk).
