Look, I know you didn’t escape to this stunning private Island in the Bahamas to scroll on IG. However, it’s natural to wonder if you can still stay connected:

  • Connectivity. On Half Moon Cay, you have access to basic cell service, but it’s very poor. I have T-Mobile and had limited service near the ship, but not much else.
  • Roaming. Roaming charges can apply. Check with your provider about international plans to avoid surprise costs.
  • Wifi Access. There are no wifi hot spots on Half Moon. I repeat: no wifi!

  • Drink stations. Free water, tea, and lemonade are provided, but alcohol and soda usually cost extra.

Keep in mind:

  • Locations. The free food options are only available in dining areas.
  • Timing. The buffet is served during specific hours, usually around lunchtime, so be sure to check the schedule. You don’t wanna get hangry!

Yes, Half Moon Cay has a few bars where you can grab a pina colada! The most popular bar on Half Moon Cay is the Captain Morgan On the Rocks, which is shaped like a giant pirate ship.

Yes, Half Moon Cay has a few shops with souvenirs and beachwear, but they’re limited. I couldn’t find my travel souvenir of choice (a magnet), which was disappointing. You can pay for most things with your cruise card, but I would make sure to have some cash or a card on hand, just in case. 

Like most of the Bahamas, Half Moon Cay accepts the US dollar.

What is the best thing to do on Half Moon Cay?

In my opinion, the best thing to do on this Island is r – e – l -a -x. There are a few other options:

  • Half Moon Beach. Beautiful, excellent, fantastic, amazing, and literally perfect. Since this is a private island, it’s a great place to take photos with only your cruise ship in the background.
  • Rent a beach cabana or villa. If you’re dreaming of private, beachfront luxury, this is your chance!
  • Island Bike Tour. A fun, eco-friendly way to explore Half Moon’s lush, tropical trails.
  • Snorkeling. You can’t go wrong snorkeling anywhere in the Bahamas!
  • Glass bottom boat tour. Take a narrated look at marine life and colorful coral reefs.  
  • Stingrays. I also did this, and I wasn’t impressed. The stingrays didn’t have much room to roam. I would not recommend this, honestly.

Is the beach at Half Moon Cay free?

Yes, you can walk to the beach at Half Moon Cay right from your ship. And you don’t have to hike forever to get to the gorgeous Half Moon Beach. It’s just a short walk from where you hop off, and the path is well-marked.

What’s the difference between Princess Cay and Half Moon Cay? They’re both in the Bahamas, about 15 miles apart in the Atlantic, but Half Moon Cay is a private island, while Princess Cay hangs out on the southern end of Eleuthera Island.

Can you get your passport stamped at Half Moon Cay?

Because Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas is privately owned, there is no immigration office. As a result, getting your passport stamped here is not a thing.
